The Resilience of Al Mukmin Ngruki: Preserving Tradition, Accelerating Development in its Mature Years

An- Nawawi Islamic Boarding School – Amidst the rapid proliferation of modern Islamic educational institutions, Al Mukmin Ngruki Islamic Boarding School in Solo, Central Java, continues to prove itself a primary magnet for seekers of knowledge.

During a visit by "Team 11" from An-Nawawi Islamic Boarding School (IBS) on Friday, April 3, 2026, it was evident that despite its status as one of the "senior" institutions, the spirit of development and regeneration remains vibrant. This observation was shared by the Chairman of the An-Nawawi Foundation, Dr. Abudzar Al Qifari, S.Pd.I., M.Pd.I.

Upon entering the pesantren grounds, the An-Nawawi mentors were greeted by a unique blend of iconic historical structures and ongoing infrastructure projects. These developments have been strategically undertaken to accommodate the student body (santri), which continues to surge every year.

"Ngruki indeed possesses a long history, but we must not remain stagnant in the past. We are continuously upgrading our facilities to ensure our students remain comfortable while pursuing their studies," stated the Director (Mudir) of PPIN Al Mukmin Ngruki, Ustadz Munir, S.Ag., M.E.

As of April 2026, students from various corners of the Indonesian archipelago were seen filling the classrooms and dormitories. This serves as a testament that the curriculum and the nurturing methods applied at Al Mukmin remain relevant and widely trusted by the public.

Key observations recorded during this visit include:
  • Infrastructure Development: The continuous expansion and modernization of facilities.
  • Student Density: The high volume of enrollment that reflects sustained public interest.
  • Student Discipline: The preservation of strict character-building values.

The visit illustrates that the age of a boarding school is not an obstacle to remaining modern. On the contrary, its maturity has allowed Al Mukmin Ngruki to be wiser in navigating contemporary changes without losing its identity as a solid and steadfast Islamic educational institution.
