History of An-Nawawi Islamic Boarding School

The Founding History of An-Nawawi Islamic Boarding School
The establishment of An-Nawawi Islamic Boarding School in Pa'bumbungang, Bantaeng, began with the noble intention of H. Sumarno, a retired PLN employee born in Sukoharjo, Central Java, and his wife, Hj. Basmawati, born in Bantaeng, South Sulawesi. Residing on Elang Baru Street in Bantaeng, they shared a profound aspiration to create something beneficial for the community. This noble intention was communicated to their first son, Dr. Abudzar Al Qifari, S.Pd.I., M.Pd.I. On his advice, the family agreed to sell their 10-hectare palm oil plantation in Pontanakayyang, Mamuju, to generate the initial capital. During a family meeting, Dr. Abudzar proposed that the funds be used not just to build a mosque, but to establish a comprehensive Islamic Boarding School. This visionary proposal was unanimously agreed upon by the entire family. The next step was to establish the legal foundation. H. Sumarno assigned his third son, Sumba Sriyano, to manage the creation of the foundation's deed at a notary. The foundation was officially named 'Yayasan Pendidikan Tahfidz An Nawawi'(The An-Nawawi Tahfidz Education Foundation). The notarial deed was issued on September 16, 2021, followed by a letter of ratification from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) on September 23, 2021. With a solid legal basis, the groundbreaking ceremony symbolizing the start of construction was held on November 2, 2021. After the construction process, An-Nawawi Islamic Boarding School officially commenced its educational activities on July 9, 2023, welcoming its first batch of 10 students into the 1st grade of the IT Junior High School.
