An-Nawawi Islamic Boarding School – The role of educators and young figures from Islamic educational institutions in Bantaeng continues to gain trust within the highest ranks of ulama organizations. Hasan Basri, Lc, the Mudir (Principal) of Ma’had An Nawawi Islamic Boarding School Pa’Bumbungang, was officially inaugurated as the Head of the Fatwa Division of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) for Bantaeng Regency, serving the 2026-2030 term.
The inauguration ceremony and Working Meeting were held solemnly at the Bantaeng Regency Library and Archives Building on Wednesday (May 13, 2026).
The inclusion of Hasan Basri, Lc, in the strategic ranks of the MUI Bantaeng board is seen as recognition of the existence of An Nawawi Islamic Boarding School Pa’Bumbungang as a center for the regeneration of ulama in Bantaeng Regency.
As a leader of a boarding school known for focusing on the mastery of classical and contemporary Islamic literature, Hasan Basri’s involvement in the Fatwa Division is expected to produce Islamic legal rulings that are relevant, moderate, and provide solutions to the problems faced by the community in Bantaeng.
The inauguration was witnessed by regional leaders and national figures, including:
The Regent of Bantaeng along with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda).
Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Nurdin Abdullah (Chairman of the Syekh Abdul Gani Great Mosque Bantaeng).
Dr. H. Syamsul Bahri (Secretary of the Fatwa Division of MUI South Sulawesi).
The presence of these figures strengthens the synergy between academics, pesantren practitioners—such as the An Nawawi family—and the local government.
Following his inauguration, Hasan Basri, Lc, expressed his readiness to bring the spirit of pesantren values into the scope of MUI’s work. This appointment is not merely a formal position but a bridge of communication between the world of Islamic education and religious policy in Bantaeng Regency.
"This mandate in the Fatwa Division is a great responsibility. We at Ma’had An Nawawi have always been committed to nurturing a generation with deep religious understanding, and now it is time to transform that knowledge into broader service through MUI," stated a representative from the An Nawawi community.
Through the Working Meeting held immediately after the inauguration, the Fatwa Division is projected to be more proactive in providing Islamic law education to the wider community in Bantaeng Regency.
